Don and Melissa White
 Don and Melissa met at their workplace in a refinery contracting business in Dallas. They married in the middle of the oil industry decline in 1987 and, after the company closed its doors, they moved to Houston. Since working in the same industry had proven to be a bad idea, they got jobs in different industries this time. Melissa worked for Compaq/HP and Don worked first for Litwin E&C and then for Jacobs Engineering. They worked hard and played hard. Over the years they have enjoyed outdoor activities including sailing, hunting, hiking, camping, canoeing, backpacking, and fishing. Well, truth is that Don enjoyed some of these activities while Melissa read a book. In 1984 Don won the Catalina-22 Nationals (inland yacht racing). It was that experience that demonstrated to him that with proper planning, goal setting, sound strategy and tactics, and a true team effort, anything can be accomplished. Today Don and Melissa are enjoying a comfortable retirement. The first few years will be spent traveling and exploring parts of the USAthat they have not seen before. Melissa says she is finally getting to enjoy the career she was meant to pursue… being a housewife. They have three grown children, who (praise the Lord) are financially and emotionally independent.
Financially, when they moved to Houston and the dust settled they realized that they had exhausted most their savings and investments and were only twenty two years away from retirement age. Using the same strategy that it took to win the Catalina-22 Nationals in 1984, they developed a plan using the old Lotus 123 spreadsheet program and settled down to a serious savings/investment lifestyle. After the 2003 tech bubble burst, it became apparent that they needed something different if they were ever going to retire comfortably. After much prayer and research they found Cypress Advisory on the internet. Kurt and Paul had just begun their partnership. It was love at first sight. First and foremost, Paul and Kurt conduct their business with a strong commitment to their clients and with the highest personal and business ethics. Within a few short years, they had made Don and Melissa “retirement ready”. There now exists a strong, trusting relationship with Paul and Kurt as well as Judy and Angie that is so important to financial success. The service they provide is always above and beyond.
